Giants and Dwarves TD: little guys with big guts

It’s been a while since our last post here. We’ve kept telling ourselves to post more regularly, but have never really done so. lol.

Let’s just get to the good news. We have just released a new game (Yay!). It’s a tower defense game called “Giants and Dwarves TD”. Like the name suggested, the game puts you in a war between dwarves and giants. These little guys have lots of guts considering they have to face huge giants multiple times their size. Build multistory tower and command a hero and help the dwarves to win the war. Make use of the environment (such as falling boulders and burning hay) and cast powerful spells to destroy the enemies.

Check the game out on Kongregate: http://www.kongregate.com/games/LabuGames/giants-and-dwarves-td and let us know what you think! Thanks!

The Mustache Theory

Just like Einstein, Newton and Archimedes, we had a eureka moment when we’re working on Pirateers! and we came up with a theory which says:

“The inner-pirate of oneself is directly proportional to the size of oneself mustache.”

or, in a more scientific equation:

p = mc²

p = inner-pirate

m = mustache size

c = a constant (which we haven’t figured out yet)

I know that you’re baffled and confused when you read this post, so are we. We’re surprised by our own genius. Life is full of surprises. Yeah, I know. Bear with us, and stay tuned for the release of Pirateers! We will post it on our blog, facebook and twitter. Meanwhile, you can read more about the game here.

Game Preview : Pirateers!

Hi guys, it’s been awhile since our last blog post :)

We have a new game ready to be released to the wild. Meet Pirateers!, the game which had make us busy for several months.

Pirateers! is a pirate themed action games. It has non-stop sea combat, ship sinking, chase actions, treasure hunting, merchant robbing, and more. But, it’s not your ordinary action game.

The story began with a legend about an ancient artifact called the Neptune’s Eye. The artifact which was believed had the ability to open the gates to infinite wealth. And just like dozens of other pirates, Neptune’s Eye was the reason why player become a pirate. The black sea was fierce, and competition is tight. Not only navy generals which player must defeat, but they also stand against other pirates which chases the same goal.

Freedom of choice is what makes Pirateers! stands out. Player are not bound to the main quest and they’re free to roam the world, do some quests, treasure hunting, or chasing around unfortunate ship. Each to their own adventure!

Quests are pretty straightforward. It’s displayed on top of the screen, and player can choose one from three available quest at times. Once selected, a directional arrow will point to the quest objectives. When it’s complete, player gets his reward.
Besides quest, player can also do treasure hunting. First, they will get a map to the treasure island, and if they decide to go the island, they can dig and hunt for treasure.

Additionally, day system will add time management to the gameplay. Although player have the ability to free roam the world, there’s time limit in the day, so they need to time manage their action to maximize what they can achieve. This won’t be too restrictive either, as this will only affect player’s final score.

With the world that’s ever changing, 3 types of ship that player can pick, and robust upgrade system, there will be no similar adventure in Pirateers!.

Those are some key features we’re covered, but there will be more to Pirateers! so be sure to check it out when it’s released!

Ludum Dare Entry: No Escape

“No Escape” is my ludum dare entry and it’s my first one. I should’ve posted it here but, I keep delaying it due to my busyness and perhaps laziness xD

In the game you play as an angry giant and you’re objective is to stomp as many people as possible while avoiding the little houses. If you step on the houses, you will trip to your death. And if you miss 3 people, you will also lose the game. There’s not much else to the game that will keep people playing but, the comments generally said that the idea is quite fun. I’m quite happy with that.

You can try it on Kongregate: http://www.kongregate.com/games/heckup/no-escape

Or, check out the ludum dare page at: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-21/?action=preview&uid=5782

Here is a bit story about how I first came up with the idea:

Ludum Dare started on Saturday but, I started doing the game on Sunday morning. I can’t really remember how the idea first came up to me. I woke up that morning and somehow the idea of doing a tap dancing game was just there in my head. The idea is to make a guy tap dancing his way trying to escape a crazy horse that’s chasing him. I know, it’s totally absurd and ridiculous lol

Considering that I only have less than 24 hours to finish the game, I have to drop the tap dancing idea. I have never made a music game before and I fear that trying to adjust the foot movement with a beat/rhythm will be technically too difficult. So, the basic concept is still there in the final game, minus the rhythm element.

I really like the concept and the resulting prototype. I think the concept is quite fun and expandable. Perhaps I can put in the rhythm element later and make it the intended tap dancing game.

I am a fan of the Experimental Gameplay project and Petri Purho’s weekly game prototypes and I’ve been wanting to do something similar. So, this game will mark my beginning. I hope to do more-maybe not so regularly-but it will surely be fun!
